Hey Fatties, have you seen the roundup of the top 30 bakeries in Toronto by neighbourhood on blogTO? While we agree with the stuff-your-face worthy choices in this list, we know there’s neighbourhood haunts and goodies that’re a bit off the beaten track.
What are they, you say?
1. Portuguese custard tarts – Caldense Bakery across the GTA is Portuguese bakery heaven. We’re also big fans of Brazil Bakery on Dundas West.

2. Baklava and loukoumadis – take a trip to the land of nuts and honey with sweet, sticky phyllo pastries and the Mediterranean version of donuts dowsed in honey and sprinkled with cinnamon. Native to many a Mediterranean culture (most famously Middle Eastern and Greek), there’s a number of places in Toronto to find them. Our favourites? Athens Pastries on the Danforth and Arz Bakery, a hub for Middle Eastern grocery and baked goods on Lawrence.
3. Coconut buns – almost any Chinese bakery you step into in Toronto will have a number of treats so enticing you’re going to walk out with a box instead of an individual bag. And the prices just can’t be beat. We’d try seeking out a delicious, subtly sweet coconut bun from Ding Dong Pastries in Kensington Market. And if if you’re near Pacific Mall, literally any place will work.
