Victory for filmmakers as they surpass their goal at close of Kickstarter campaign
Award winning director/producer Nimisha Mukerji (65_RedRoses, Blood Relative) and producer Kaitlyn Regehr (“Re-Vamped”) collect $45,570 today as their Kickstarter Canada campaign for Tempest Storm: Burlesque Queenends. The campaign ran from September 9 – October 9. All funds raised are being used to continue filming Tempest Storm: Burlesque Queen on location in Las Vegas. Funds raised also allow filming to extend to Tempest Storm’s hometown of Georgia. The original crowdfunding goal was $40, 000.
The success of the campaign is celebrated all the more by Mukerji and Regehr as Kickstarter enforces a policy requiring the fundraising goal to be met or they forfeit any funds raised. “We’re so pleased with the support we received. We know Tempest’s fans are supportive and were pleased to see a new audience developing interest in the story,” said the film’s director, Nimisha Mukerji.
The campaign began the same day as the launch of Kickstarter Canada. Mukerji and Regehr began the campaign while participating as the sole documentary selected to compete in Telefilm Canada’s PITCH THIS! competition at TIFF. During the campaign, the team also participated at WestDoc Pitchfest, winning $7,500 for their Tempest Storm: Burlesque Queen pitch.

Tempest Storm: Burlesque Queen chronicles the life of burlesque role model Tempest Storm. The sex symbol dated Elvis, was mistress to JFK, friends with Marilyn Monroe and, at 85, has just finished recording an album with Jack White. Touching on themes of sexuality, aging, eating disorders and, of course, being a sex symbol, Tempest Storm: Burlesque Queen chronicles the adventures, struggles and scandals of the living legend.
