What’sup with SUP yoga
Yoga is soothing, meditative and restorative. We also believe that yoga is a lot of fun and that we should treat our practice that way by mixing it up from time to time. Today more than ever there are so many different types of yoga to choose from.
Recently we embarked on a new experience that is SUP (stand up paddleboard) yoga at the YogaFit Canada studio. The class draws from the popularity of SUP and brings it indoors with the use of wooden INDO boards that are designed to give a slight rocking instability to mirror being on the water.
Balance is a key component of yoga and this class kicks it up a notch while keeping beginners in mind. The board comes with inflatable plastic inserts that can be placed underneath for a more advanced practice. The hour-long class follows a cycle of vinyasa flow poses. The slow meditative movements paired with the instability of the INDO boards challenges your mind-body connection throughout the class, calling on core muscles to keep you balanced.
Poses like standing tree are slightly harder to hold in the best way possible, giving a more intentional purpose to grounding yourself, while child’s pose and any still poses are complimented by a slight rocking that will soothe you into your breathing. Overall this is a great way to be adventurous with your yoga. The YogaFit studio is located at 898 Danforth Ave and is open Monday to Friday:10:00am to 7:00pm and Saturday:10:00am to 4:00pm. Your first class at YogaFit Canada is complimentary and they offer a variety of classes, so take a look at their schedule to see which suits you best. Get out there and have some fun with your yoga, we know you’ll leave with a smile on your face.
