September 11, 2013 – The SummerWorks Performance Festival is pleased to welcome Emi Forster as General Manager.
Originally from Sydney, Australia, Forster was most recently Curator/Producer of the inaugural Beams Arts Festival. She has a background as a dance and video artist and has won a Melbourne Fringe Festival Award for Best Dance. Before moving to Canada she completed her Master of Art Administration at the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales and worked as a dance and visual arts critic.
According to Forster, the General Manager role at SummerWorks is her ideal job. ‘I decided to focus more seriously on arts management a few years ago, which is when I started my Masters. SummerWorks is exactly where I want to be right now, and I feel like all the hard work and the relocation across the world is paying off. I’m ecstatic.’ Emi succeeds previous General Manager Lucy Eveleigh, who has moved to the Toronto Fringe.
With her background across a range of performance disciplines, Forster is excited about where SummerWorks is heading. ‘As our Artistic Producer Michael Rubenfeld continues to investigate theatre and the broader range of performance, it’s a really exciting place to be. I feel that such a vibrant, boundary-pushing festival is the perfect fit for me and I’ll enjoy the challenge of managing an organization so integral to the cultural fabric of Toronto.’
SummerWorks Performance Festival is the largest juried festival in Canada. For over twenty years SummerWorks has been dedicated to stimulating artistic growth while presenting high quality work. Under Michael Rubenfeld’s leadership SummerWorks has expanded to include Live Art, a Music Series, a Performance Bar, the SummerWorks Leadership Intensive Program and a Talks Series, receiving enthusiastic national acclaim.
In 2014 SummerWorks will take place from August 7 – 17.
