The Spring Beekeeper
I have always admired the bumblebee. With spring now officially upon us, over the next few weeks, we will be seeing the return of the bumblebee to our garden patios and backyards. In celebration, here are five fun ways to show your support of the busiest little creature in the city
Turn your garden into the ultimate ‘pollen-ground’ for the bumblebee. By following this beautifully illustrated chart, you are not only helping the bumblebee, but creating an easy to care, gorgeous green space for yourself.
A symbol of community, the sun and personal power, I wear a totem of the bumblebee daily to remind myself to slow down, smell the flowers and to appreciate the beauty in simplicity. That paired with one of these handmade, bumble bee bobby pins, you cannot help but channel the power and serenity of this amazing creature.
Sourcing local businesses that stock real honeycomb and artisan wildflower honey, is a simple act that gives back in so many ways. One of my favorite spots in the city is Stasis Preserves. Also available online, there is no excuse not to integrate bee-friendly honey into your pantry.
Finally, bumblebees are responsible for producing the sweetest food on earth – honey. Be it what you put in your tea, sprinkle over your scones or chose as the ultimate Sunday afternoon treat, eat honey. One of my favorite ways to eat this sweet stuff is in this wonderful creation I stumbled upon at The Chocolateria. With a hot cup of tea, it is my 4 o’clock snack escape at least one a week.
