Penpals is a column where our friends in the media write us a letter and fill in some blanks. Today’s penpal is Richard Ouzounian. He’s been the theatre critic for the Toronto Star since 2000. Prior to that, he was the theatre critic for CBC Radio from 1991 and has served as the Artistic Director for five major Canadian Theatres. All while writing six books and having two children with his beautiful wife of 37 years.

Dear Clutch,
In the beginning I wanted fame, But then I settled for happiness.
If I had to choose between ice cream and gelato, I’d choose both.
My favourite thing about my job is being paid to do something I love! But sometimes it can get a little too all-consuming.
When I need to cool down, I watch British crime series on Netflix. (Luther, Ripper Street, Whitechapel, etc.)
Print is for me. Social media is for other people.
At night I dream about the morning. Right now I’m loving the summer.
My favourite reviewing position is the downward dog.
PR professionals make me very happy, most of the time. I wish they would be fruitful and multiply.
Before I go I want you to know that you are my BFF. Truly.
