Synopsis
Though its conception predates last year’s horrific mass murder in Norway, when Anders Breivik killed seventy-seven people, Eva Sørhaug’s 90 Minutes is bound to be seen as the first Norwegian film to address these acts of senseless violence, albeit indirectly. As in her memorable Festival debut, Cold Lunch (08), which charted three disparate protagonists linked by the same neighbourhood, Sørhaug’s bold follow-up feature is also comprised of three separate storylines, each centering on the subject of domestic violence — specifically the last ninety minutes of a person’s life. Sørhaug again focuses on those who fall through the cracks of a well-ordered and wealthy society, though the universe she creates here is far more sinister and disturbing.
