Our fearless leader, ClutchPR president Daniela Syrovy, is at Cannes Film Festival right now. But don’t think think her yoga practice is on hold because she’s out of town. As someone who travels regularly for work, Daniela’s mastered the art of taking her yoga practice on the road. Here are a few tips for keeping up your yoga practice, and your sanity, when traveling for business.
Packing
Don’t give yourself the excuse of not having the right gear. Skip that extra sequined top or fifth pair of heels in favour of your yoga pants and mat. If you’ve got a heavy mat like a Manduka at home, buy a thin one for traveling. Roll and pack it or sling it on your back. If there’s no way to bring a mat, bring clothes you won’t mind laying in a quiet patch of grass with, you can practice anywhere.
Space
Any space is a good space to practice. All you need is the room to roll out your yoga mat. We’ve practiced in hallways, on patios, in hotel rooms, offices, poolside and many other more unorthodox spaces. Find a spot that’s quiet and just go for it.
Community
Hit a local studio. There’s no better way to get a feel for a place than to keep your routine. If you practice yoga daily, do so while you’re out of town. There’s no reason to disrupt your routine for the sake of business.
Keeping your routine is key. Travelling can give you jet lag and cause dehydration, headaches and more. Maintaining the routine that keeps you calm and centred at home is important while dealing with the stresses of travelling for business.
Just take it as an opportunity to get creative. Where have you squatted to do your on the road yoga?
