Yesterday marked the first international Museum Week around the world and Twitter was abuzz, with over 800 participating museums spanning 50 countries including Canada and all over Europe. The week long (March 23-29) global event aims to celebrate museums, galleries and cultural institutions that make valuable contributions to the arts, sciences, history and culture around the world.
To facilitate discussion around each daily theme between participating venues and the general public, seven hash tags will be used – one for each day of the week. This is a great example of an event integrating in social media in a fun, easy way. Check out the hash tags and their accompanying theme below.
Monday, March 23 – #secretsMW
A sneak peak of what goes on behind the scenes at participating venues was provided yesterday along with a few well kept secrets.
Tuesday, March 24 – #souvenirsMW
Share a souvenir or memory from a visit to the museum: mugs, books, postcards, photos, special moments, etc.
Wednesday, March 25 – #architectureMW
Explore the architectural heritage, gardens, history and surrounding areas of your favourite museums.
Thursday, March 26 – #inspirationMW
Share what inspires you, whether it’s related to art, science or history.
Friday, March 27 – #familyMW
Kick off the weekend with a trip to the museum accompanied by family and friends.
Saturday, March 28 – #favMW
Using a 140 character message, video or photo, describe and share your favourite thing about a museum. It could be your favourite piece of work, a conference, a favourite location, etc.
Sunday, March 29 – #poseMW
The final day of #MuseumWeek is about creativity so strike a pose and post a creative photo.
Along with the daily hash tags, don’t forget to include the event hash tag, #MuseumWeek.
