Penpals is a column where our friends in the media write us a letter and fill in some blanks. Today’s penpal is the music editor at NOW magazine, Julia LeConte. Musically, Julia is partial to hip-hop, piano balladry and a good brass section. Otherwise, she likes basketball, parties and torturing herself with endurance sports.

Dear Clutch,
In the beginning I wanted money, fast cars, diamond rings, gold chains and champagne (shit — every damn thing).
But then I realized I’m pretty happy with $12 bubbles and getting to listen to CDs before everybody else.
If I had to choose between Tim Riggins and Coach Taylor I’d choose Coach.
My favourite thing about my job is meeting fascinating people every week. But sometimes it can get a little stressful.
When I need to cool down I drink all of the wine.
Print is my favourite. Social media is where I spend a great deal of time.
At night I dream about all the food I’m going to eat.
Right now I’m loving the peanut butter cookies at Red Rocket, my coffee place on Wellesley. But I don’t think “love” is the word. I think it’s an unhealthy preoccupation… like Ali Larter in Obsessed.
My favourite basketball position is small forward.
PR professionals make me better at my job. I wish they would throw even more parties.
Before I go, I want you to know that I was the first person to notice/tweet about Drake lint-rolling his pants at the Raptors game. (I had a direct line on Drizzy from press row, and obvs I had one eye on him the whole game.) Real talk. Check the Twitter timelines.
blue skies,
Julia LeConte
