Fatties, it’s a sweater out there. Not that warm fuzzy thing, which would be a nightmare today, but a sweaty, hot day. Sweat-er.
Naturally, we’re concerned with what to eat. Here’s our list of the best hot weather foods to keep you cool:
Watermelon salad
It’s something Mediterranean people have been doing forever, and it’s clear why. Crunchy, cold watermelon cubes pair perfectly with the creamy, salty flavour of feta cheese. It’s brilliant. Trust us, it may sound odd but we promise it’s cool and refreshing. It can be as simple (literally a hunk of cheese and a chunk of watermelon) or as complicated as you want. However you do it, we guarantee you’ll eat it until you’re so bloated you’re swimming inside yourself.
Freezies.
We’ve got a stockpile of the sugary, frozen crap in our office. When it’s sweaty and hot out what feels better than eating a giant freezie, with the condensation dripping into your lap and the melted, cool juice left to slurp when you inevitably don’t crunch it all before it melts? Nothing. Actually, you know what’d be cool? Homemade freezies.
Cold noodle salads
Cold noodle salads with an Asian flare are absolutely perfect during a heat wave. Flavours like peanut and sesame are savory, delicious and not heavy. Match it with some thinly sliced crunchy veggies and we’ll be drooling. Try this healthy Cold Peanut Sesame soba noodle dish.
Last but not least, you know how we feel about coffee. The old adage of drinking hot things in the heat to keep you cool just doesn’t make sense to us though. So how do we feed our coffee cravings in the blistering heat?
Iced coffee, naturally.
This summer, try flavouring and creating your own iced coffee treats. Store bought is great, but at home is fun too. Tip: brew some coffee and pour it into an ice cube tray to make coffee ice cubes. As your drink melts, it won’t get diluted.
What are your favourite foods to enjoy in the hot summer sun?
