Fatties, all this warm weather has us thinking about strawberry infused salads and mojitos. But before Winter goes, we’re rounding up the best cold weather foods to mow down on one last time.
1. Soup: Specifically rich, hearty soups like a creamy seafood chowdah or turkey wild rice. We’d suggest popping by one of Rock Lobster‘s locations for their East Coast Chowder. Fresh haddock, Nova Scotia lobster, clams… mmm.
2. Shepherd’s Pie: Try making this classic dish at home. Mashed potatoes, sauteed ground beef and veg make this a warm, filling comfort food we love eating but totally abandon when it’s warm.
3. Lasagna: It’s meaty (or not), saucey, filling and delicious. But it’s not something we eat when we’re sweating buckets. Lasagna is a bit labour intensive to make so try it from a longstanding Toronto Italian food spot like Lamanna’s Bakery (6758 Kingston Rd) or Commisso Brothers (8 Kincort Rd). It’s worth the trip outside of the downtown core, don’t be a snob.
4. Hot Chocolate: Don’t get us wrong, we’ll drink it whipped up and cold a la frozen hot chocolate during the Summer. But for now have one last hit of the hot stuff. Try making your own spicy drinking chocolate at home. It’s simple and deadly.
