Originally built in 1930, The Royal Theatre (608 College St) has become a Toronto icon and brings back a piece of old world glam to movie watching. Their foundation may be old but their selection of movies is anything but, featuring documentaries like GMO OMG and crowd pleasers like The Grand Budapest Hotel.
2. Drive-in theatre at the Polson Pier
With the privilege of being Toronto’s last remaining drive-in theatre, this is a must on any Summer to-do list. Open Friday through Sunday, the Polson Pier screens all the newest summer blockbusters.
3. Katy Perry
If you somehow missed mention of the madness that was Lady Gaga, Jay-Z and Beyonce descending on our beloved city last week, don’t fret. There is more than enough star power going around to make up for it. First up on the docket is Katy Perry this Friday – Monday at the Air Canada Centre.
What’s better than one blockbuster music act? How about two. This pairing of classic with current is sure to draw a diverse crowd. The group first performed together at the 2011 MTV European Music Awards and is now taking their show on the road performing at the Air Canada Centre on July 28.
August 5 marks the date that this band of brothers/cousins play at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre. Rounding out a varied list of performances , these alternative rockers are playing songs off their most recent album Mechanical Bull along with the singles we all know and love.
This list only scratches the surface of the awesomeness that is summer blockbusters in the city so check out local listings and go see some entertainment.
