Each month, we feature an artist who caught our attention. They could be in theatre, film, music or visual art. The point is we think they’re kick ass and you should know who they are.
Jayd-Ink is a multi-talented singer, poet, rapper, and songwriter who was born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in Toronto. She’s worked with some of hip hop’s most notable artists including rapper, T.I. and her single “Deep Under” secured placement in STARZ hit series Power. Her unique sound has been described as sultry and smooth. When she sings, not only do you believe her but you believe in her.

6 things you can’t live without:
Family, female intuition, coconut water, creativity, laughter, music
What’s the best show that you’ve seen recently?
I don’t watch much television, but I can tell you about a great movie that I watched recently. It’s called Dr. Strange and it’s about the power of belief. The concept is based around people not acknowledging their strengths or capabilities because of their fears. It’s a pretty powerful movie if you take the time to analyze what’s being said.
What are your plans for 2017?
I’m working on a few projects at the moment. I’m still deciding which single I’m going to release to start the wave for the new year, but overall I’m just planning on making next year bigger and better.
Most memorable moment in your career thus far?
My most memorable moment has been making the decision to take this path seriously. It’s quite a transition going from being in the corporate world where you’re able to look forward to a paycheck every two weeks, to taking a leap of faith to do what you love.
What would you be doing if you weren’t doing this?
If I wasn’t an artist, I’d be somewhere going crazy. A life without being creative would be miserable, for me.
What advice do you have for people who want to get where you are?
Believe it’s possible, no matter what.
Industry shout out, who does it go to?
I just want to thank anyone who ever blogged about my work, re-posted my videos via social media, or took the time to listen to my music. You are appreciated.
